This group was set up to raise awareness of other desperate dogs like Maxi WAS . Dogs that are in desperate need of a loving home and have somehow found themselves as a stray.

Please note that at the moment we are volunteers at Waterfall Kennels. This  is not a rescue centre but a council dog pound and we are  advertising the unclaimed strays  that need rehoming.

We are a Registered Charity - our number is 1162442. We have 4 Trustees - Jane Galliford : Secretary and Promotions Manager,  Michelle Tomlinson-Cooper : Chairperson and Volunteer Manager,  Antonia Boyd : Donations and Animal Welfare,   Sharon Cawthorne : Treasurer.

With the coming closure of Waterfall Kennels , Maxi's Mates are now fund raising for a new premises ran by ourselves. We are in the planning permission approval stage and hope to have some good news soon.

Our past successes and achievements are:

Maxi's Mates  have being helping  our local dog pound (Waterfall Kennels) since 9th October 2012. We put all the stray dogs that come into the kennels   on a closed group online.  This is to help reunite them with their owners or  promote the dogs to try to find them loving homes or a rescue space.

Maxi's Mates successfully fund raised for the erecting of outside runs for the dogs and gave Waterfall  kennels over £1500 .

Maxi's Mates  also provide food and bedding and everyday when kennels are open we have a group of up to  5 volunteers that go up to take these dogs for a long walk.

Maxi's Mates have several fun dog shows/ charity nights per year  which raises  lots of money that in turn helps us help the dogs.

Maxi's Mates  have donated funds  to other local charities that take their rescue dogs from Waterfall  and also have paid  a contribution to certain rescue centres nationally  towards costs of transporting a dog to them or towards vet costs which has helped towards securing the dog  a space with  them.

Maxi's Mates also pay for dogs that are in need of Vet care whilst in the dog pound  and are out of the first 7 days that obliges  the Local Authority to pay for such treatment .

Maxi's Mates have established links with Marske Vets and have secured an  offer that all dogs adopted from the pound will receive  vaccinations  , flea and worm treatment plus a health check for a small fee of £28 .

Maxi's Mates have also established good contact links with rescue centres nationally .

Maxi's Mates also have built a relationship with  local businesses and the  Leisure Industry in our area  who are supportive  in our fund raising activites   by providing the location to run them for free or at a very low cost. They also  help with donations for the dogs or willingly  offer their services for free i.e dog grooming salons or mobile groomers .

Maxi's Mates successfully organised a Media campaign to get an extension of the notice given by owners Guisborough Estates to allow the Local Authorities to have more time and continue to send the stray dogs to  from April 2015 (planned closure)  to November 2015 .

Maxi's Mates also are in the process of discussions with Guisborough Estates to lease one of their properties and open a kennels ourselves for any stray dog to go to.

We hope to continue to provide a safe haven for our strays and to still have a local pound for them to go to.
